Michigan Online School respects the rights of parents and families to make decisions about their students’ learning. There may be times when a parent considers certain lessons, books, or materials objectionable for various reasons. If a parent finds material objectionable, he or she should contact his or her student’s teacher. Teachers will work with parents to find alternative lessons to meet the lesson objectives. An assessment of the lesson must be completed to show that the objectives have been met.

Do you take students with IEPs, and Do you have special education teachers/program?

Yes. We provide a full continuum of special education services for all students identified in need of such support. Our special education leadership and teachers will review any special education documents from your child’s previous school, hold a team meeting that will include the parents/guardians, and develop a plan to ensure the appropriate supports are in place.

When a school receives a records request from us, your previous school must withdraw the student from that school. It is best if the family notifies the previous school that they are withdrawing as each school/state may have documents requiring guardian signatures. It is best to notify the school of your intentions to move schools as soon as possible and they can set the end date accordingly.

If that does not work for the student, they can login anytime that works for them that day in order to have their coursework completed by set due dates. Your student may see other students on camera, but cameras are not required to be on except when taking tests or at the request of the teacher or other MOS staff.

CAN STUDENTS ACCELERATE AND COMPLETE THEIR DIPLOMA FASTER?

Yes, you can! Students are given a traditional ‘pace chart,’ providing students with a plan for completing their assignments. The traditional pace is based on completing an average of two to three assignments per week, while studying three to five hours each day. Students may elect to accelerate their pace by completing more assignments sooner. This can result in early graduation, allowing the student to pursue a career or higher education sooner than a traditional school setting would offer.
